About Uttan

Uttan is located few kms away from Bhayander. It’s population mainly consists of East Indian Catholics and Kolis (fishing community). It’s inhabitants are mostly farmers and fishermen. It’s a part of Dharavi bet which consists of Gorai, Dongri, Pali, Chowk & Uttan.  It’s home to numerous churches, Shrines & Chapels, Dariya Mata (our lady of the sea) & Valenkani Church are the significant places of worship. 

About Mogan Rodrigues

Mogan is an advocate by education. He is also a tour guide with Indian tourism. He is a native east Indian of Uttan(Dharavi bet). He is also a researcher in East Indian food culture, language and all the things related to east Indian community.

About Yash Sheth

Born in 1994, Yash Sheth is an Electronics Engineer by education. He has been practicing Street and Documentary photography since 2015.  
 
Photography is something that puts a smile on his face. He loves how the medium of photography allows him to open a door to enter into the lives of strangers & document the moments in the form of photographs by being an observer and sometimes participant too.
 
He Believes in the idea of learning from everyone. ‘We are all learners’ – that’s his motto!
 
Yash has been documenting this village from last few years through various festivals, Events & daily life.
 

About The Tour

Uttan has a vast, rich culture and history. Mogan is an East Indian culture historian. He will guide the tour through various places, lanes inside the uttan viilage educating us with history of it. Meanwhile a tour isn’t complete without making photographs. Yash will help you with his knowledge and experience in making good compositional photos, and will also teach how to see, observe and work the scene while making a photo.

  • Date: 22nd July 2023
  • Time: 2:45pm to 9pm
  • Fees: 1800rs for Indians and 25$ for foreigners
  • Spots: Only 12 spots are available
  • Meeting Point and Time: Outside Bhayander Station (West) at 2:45pm on 22nd July 2023
  • Payment method: UPI through Google Pay/Paytm

Itinerary Of The Tour

  • All the participants meet at Bhayander station at 2:45pm on 22nd July 2023.
  • We leave for Uttan Village in an auto-rickshaw shared by 3 people
  • we reach at uttan village at around 3:15pm. All participants can get refresh at Mogan’s house. Hi-tea will be served on arrival. 
  • we start the tour at around 4pm.
  • Our tour will start from Dariya mata Church (Our lady of the sea) & East indian village. 
  • As we walk more, We go through the lanes where catholic farming community resides. 
  • Our next stop would be Uttan koli(fishermen) Village. It has houses of vibrant colors. We explore this village as Mogan educate us about the place.
  • Our final stop would be Valenkani Church and followed by the station of the cross till 7:30pm. Throughout the whole tour Yash will help you sharing his knowledge about photography and making Good photographs.
  • We get back to Mogan’s house. From 7:30pm to 8:15pm, there will be Q/A session where participants can ask anything about the place to Morgan.
  • Then We enjoy the East Indian dinner. The Tour will end at around 9pm.
  • Yash will accompany all the participants back to the Bhayander Station.

  • Hi-Tea: Lemon grass black tea with Fugias (East Indian Deep fried Bread)
  • Dinner:

– Chicken Moil

– Chicken Potato Chops

– Gavar Fugath

– Mix Veg (Ussal with bottle Masala)

Requirements For This Tour

  • Anyone can join this Tour, artists, filmmakers, painters, writers, even if you are just a Mumbaikar, it doesn’t matter whether you are a photographer or not. If you just want to experience and feel this city, You are most welcome to join. 

  • Small camera with fixed focal lens or wide angle lens. Shoot with whatever you feel comfortable with. Camera, Mobile phone, if you just want to observe with your eyes, you can do that too.

  • As many fully charged camera batteries you can carry.

  • First aid kit, if you are on any medication or treatment, Please consider your doctor before joining.

You are responsible for your protection of camera and other accessories during rain. Please do carry plastic bags with you to cover your phone and other belongings.

Mogan & Yash is not responsible for any unfortunate accidents during the walk. But they will surely do his best to help you out during such scenarios.

There will be a waiting list just in case there’s any cancellation.

Cancellation Policy : You will only get a full refund only if I can get someone to take your spot. Otherwise only 50% of the amount will be refunded.
